I have been trying to create a classroom library that promotes more reading for my students. The books I have been picking are my students' favorites. However, I realized that most of the main characters are Caucasian. I want my students of color to see themselves in books, too. For this project, I want main characters who are people of color so that all of my students are represented in my classroom library. I feel these books will help my students of color find a love for reading that they may not have had before. They might even want to become an author themselves.
