This will be my first year in kindergarten and many of my students first time in school. I want to make sure they have everything they need to not only grow academically, but socially as well. My hope is to incorporate purposeful play into my classroom. I have requested blocks, Legos, potato heads, play doh, and stem building materials to bring science and math to life! I have also included dolls, puppets, and play food. These would give my students a chance to expand on what they learn with some authentic and creative time interacting with their peers in a way they do not get a chance to do at home. This should also give my English language learners the opportunity to expand their social skills by engaging with their peers in a less formal setting, helping to ease fears associated with a whole group setting. My final request is for a calandra and books to increase our math and literacy skills. Overall, these materials will give us a chance to get the most out of each and everyday together!
