This year 25 third graders fill my Title I public school classroom in Georgia. They are almost all on free or reduced lunch plans. My class has big goals. I have aspiring soldiers, scientists, football players, doctors, lawyers, and aspirations they haven't even dreamed of or have been exposed to yet. They unanimously voted to be able to think, write, and speak like 5th graders by the end of their 3rd grade year. They always want to be helpful in some sort of way. They enjoy competing with each other and participating in engaging and interactive lessons. They love experiments and hearing about places far away from their city. They need continued motivation and engagement so that they maximize their learning time this year and make their goals. In our classroom, they are called "Mountain Movers" after Dr. Seuss's "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" because they are going to move mountains, whether it is achieving their dream career, growing two years in reading, or being resilient learners.
