A kidney table will help me have direct contact with all students during small group instruction time. The shape of the table allows me to center on the small group as a whole or meet individually within the group. Many of the students in my classroom do not have anyone to sit with them and talk with them, language skills and social skills have to be developed to achieve the highest levels of understanding in academic areas. Due to the size of the smaller groups, someone is always a distance away from the teacher at rectangular tables which often results in students being distracted. With a kidney shape table, students will remain engaged in the topic and I will have easy access to each student to clear up any misconceptions in his/her learning.
