My teacher name is Ms. Banana. My fabulous 1st graders are pretty proficient in using technology. Distance learning is quite a challenge for this age group and their parents as they really need an in-person connection with only the second teacher in their educational careers. One of the biggest challenges we've been facing is the noise level at homes as many students do not have a dedicated, quiet space in which to work. Even if the students do have a space to work in, the internal microphones on our Chromebooks do not function optimally. Therefore, it is very difficult to hear students. 6 and 7-year-olds are quite shy, and they are even more shy speaking in a virtual space such as Zoom. With a great set of headphones and a great mic, students will really benefit from having their voices heard and their learning shared, not to mention being able to hear the teacher and their classmates.
