This year I will be giving my students the opportunity to participate in a tournament of books. At the beginning of the school year, students will be given a list of 16 books. In March, students will begin voting to see which books were their favorites. This activity will coincide with the NCAA basketball tournament, culminating with a champion being chosen and named "book of the year". I will be teaching 3 different ELA classes, so I would like to have multiple copies of each of these books. I envision this project as a way to introduce the students to a variety of different authors and genres. I also see this as a way to create intrinsic motivation for students to read.
