If these 1st graders are given the opportunity to have a variety of books available to them in the classroom, they will have a much greater love for reading. Therefore, success for them this year and in the years to come will be inevitable. Students will be reading in small groups, whole group read-alouds as well as independently. Small groups will be leveled and guided reading will take place regularly. We will use the big books specifically for the read-aloud time and for our phonics. Paperbacks will be for partner and independent reading time. They will also be used to accommodate learners with special needs in the classroom, using one-on-one time to meet their needs.
