Everyone is a scientist, but not everyone realizes that fact until they get to experience using real science equipment in a meaningful science lab. As someone who was inspired to pursue science the moment I first used a micro-pipette in my high school biology class, I want to allow my students the same experience to realize that they, too, are scientists. These materials will give students the chance to practice with authentic science equipment in a meaningful way. Students will have the chance to use gel electrophoresis equipment to understand how DNA is used to link families. The cancer detection kit will show students how cancer risks can be inherited or the result of mutations. Even the water and air quality kit can allow students to learn more about their surrounding environments, and even engineer solutions to any issues they might find. These relevant experiences could shape the future of each student!
