My students will learn how to read critically and how to see how people try to deceive with facts - this is a class that teaches persuasion and how to not be distracted by figures and facts that are being presented erroneously. They will also be reading American Non-fiction memoirs that depict life in a variety of cultural contexts - "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" will be a complement to Rebecca Walls' "The Glass Castle" - two very different stories with inter-connected issues that affect the current cultural conversation. Class copies of these works will be a great help to us.
