Without reeds, our recently donated bass clarinet is just a heavy, bulky conversation piece. And while looking at it, holding it, and comparing it to our soprano clarinets is definitely a meaningful educational experience, we'd really like to put it to use and make her "sing" this school year. The bass clarinet would be used by members of our 4th-7th grade band. Our band program currently has ten clarinet players. That number is expected to double this year. They all have expressed interested in taking Claire out for a test drive. Depending on the funding of this project, we also hope to launch a clarinet choir this school year.
