Children, especially those in a special education class, learn best in an environment where they feel comfortable, safe, and where they are given the proper resources to meet their specific needs. Thes materials will help make learning effective, and possible, in our classroom. 'If a child cannot learn in the way we teach we must teach in a way the child can learn." - Ivar Lovaas Flexible Seating: Wobble Chairs, Bean Bag Seats, Balance Ball Chairs -Students will feel a sense of empowerment by having the choice of where and how they will work. This will also give them the freedom and flexibility to change their seating locations and positions to best fit their needs. Whether it's in a small group, in their independent work tables, in the library, or during whole group, students will be able to sit comfortably and focus on learning. Because students learn differently and at difference rates and paces, it is important to provide learning materials that incorporate all learning styles with an emphasis in visual and kinesthetic opportunities. Word Builders, Touch & Read Sets, Sentence Puzzles: These resources will aid in developing the fundamentals that are required for students to be able to read and write independently, through blending, decoding, segmenting, isolating and building. The hooks and laminating pouches will be used to create long lasting visual schedules, and pencil grips will aid with students' fine motor skills needed for writing. The place value chart, number line, timers and money, will be used for Math Centers to supplement lessons.
