The engaging classic novel The Phantom Tollbooth is the foundation of our class’s Unit 2 novel study, and we need physical copies for students to read. My students deserve to hold real books in their hands. The alternatives (squinting at a page projected on the board or flipping through a photocopy) waste students’ valuable learning time. Most importantly, holding a book makes our scholars feel valued and it makes learning more exciting! Through this novel, students will learn about wordplay and the ways authors deliberately craft their tales by carefully selecting words and phrases. This is such an imaginative book and it will inspire students in their own writing. My class has 30 students. I’m asking for 34 copies so students can use these books for years to come (we’ll have replacements for lost or damaged books over time).
