I teach middle school math (grades 5 - 8) at an alternative school in Arkansas. Our school services students from eight surrounding districts. We have anywhere from 120 - 180 kids at any given time; 100% of whom qualify for free lunch. I need help pulling my students in - they all HATE math and aren't the least bit interested in learning it much less LOVING it like I do! My biggest challenge is getting their attention and if I'm lucky in doing that - keeping it. I would love to maximize their learning experience in my classroom with engaging lessons by showing video clips to gain their interest, hopefully keep it and teach them all about MATH! The challenges I have encountered while teaching at this alternative school is meeting the needs of every student no matter what level they are on.
