One of the most effective ways to keep students following along during a lesson is to make sure that they have the resources to remain involved. A calculator is an incredibly small object, but it can have an enormous impact on student engagement and learning. If every student in my class had a calculator, they could be held accountable for completing their own work, instead of relying on the teacher or other students.
