My students love making things. Because most of my students are low-income, they don't have materials such as building bricks to create things at home. The makerspace centers in the school library provide the supplies and opportunities they need to bring their ideas to life. Building with bricks enhances creativity, cooperation and critical thinking because the possibilities of what students can construct is only limited by their imagination. Building things is universal - our English Language Learners love it because it's something they can do successfully without speaking the language well. Our school library is small. By mounting the baseplates to the wall, students can build in the vertical plane, utilizing what was previously unused space. This will allow for an additional makerspace center so that even more students will have the opportunity to create.
