Recent studies show that, just like adults, the brain activity of students slows when required to sit for long periods of time. Flexible seating allows students the opportunity to make good choices and take ownership of their learning time and opportunities within the school day through a variety of seating options that encourages collaboration and a sense of responsibility. If my students had the opportunity to responsibly choose a seating option such as a comfortable bean bag chair or wobble floor cushion, focused learning would increase not only for that particular student but for those seated around them as well.
