These Osmo Genius Kits will open so many doors of opportunity and authentic learning experiences for my students. Not only will using this technology align with our Computer Science and Digital Literacy Standards, but will also gear them toward being college and career ready. They will learn valuable computational skills that will also aid in sharpening problem solving and critical thinking skills. Having access to this STEM tool will allow them to be able to compete with other students like them even with the low income and high poverty challenges some of them face.
I am so excited for all the ways we can use this in our classroom. For those students who arrive early to school, they will be able to access the kits for extra spelling and word wall practice during morning work. During our literacy workstations, students will work in pairs to practice letter names, sounds, spelling, reading and vocabulary skills. In math stations, students will explore tangrams that is essential in knowing shapes, as well as number sense that will build to other math confidence. I plan to also use this technology as an incentive for students who excel in behavior in the classroom.
This project is really going to help my student be more creative and collaborative with their peers, all while enhancing skills we learn.
