I am eager to incorporate a flexible seating style in my classroom. I currently have very few options. I know my students would benefit from having more of a variety to choose from. One style of chair that interest me is the wobble chair. Studies show the wobble chairs to be effective for those students with attention and hyperactivity disorders, however all students would benefit from this type of seat. The wobble chair was designed to support posture and relieve stress in the lower back. The chairs are durable and do not tip easily. I would also like to add the cube chair and ottoman sets. The idea of the cube chairs and ottomans is to provide comfort when needed, but also give a family-room feel where students are able to congregate for group discussions. They can collaborate on projects, explore ideas, share stories and learn from each other. I also need a place for students to be able to rest if needed. When students are able to make responsible choices on their own that support their learning experience, it boosts their confidence and self- esteem. Providing students with seating options that are fun, comfortable and effective are a great ways for them to take control of their education. I am more than excited to put this plan into motion and update my classroom with these exciting new features. The students will learn to make responsible decisions that enhance their individual learning style. They will learn to be patient and take turns. Most of all, my students will be excited to get to work and motivated to do their best!
