Have you ever tried to get twenty some odd 6 and 7 years old to sit still for 15 minutes? It is a very challenging task. As a result, teachers need a way to manage space quickly and efficiently while the students are in a lesson. This carpet will be a way for my students to manage their own space and learn how to control their bodies appropriately. If a student needs a reminder, I can simply say, "Let's remember to stay in out squares." By using the carpet as a guideline, my students will be more aware of their space, and their proximity to others. This will limit conflict in the classroom and provide a tool for my students to help themselves become better learners. This carpet will allow my students to easily pair up, get into groups and manage their own space. In addition to managing their space, this carpet will allow my students to pair up or sit in groups quickly and accurately, which will decrease transition time and increase learning time. As a result, academic talk among students will increase which is crucial to child and academic development.
