Every year, we do a World War II Unit in our English Language Arts Class. I would love for all students to be able to read "The Boy in The Striped Pajamas" by John Boyne. This novel pulls at students heart strings and really poses the question: What does our response to conflict say about us? Currently students listen to the novel and follow along on the board to the one copy of the novel I have. It would be much more engaging for students to each have a copy of the novel to follow along with in class and reread at their own pace. Students could use the novel to pull quotes in their argumentative unit essay. Having a class set of novels will even further promote our print rich environment. Students will be able to take the novel home and share it with their families and include them in the learning environment and difficult conversations that come with this intense novel about two young boy's journeys, from opposite sides of the war.
