These materials are all things that the students can use to create. STEM is all about learning through hands on experience with science, technology, engineering, and math. STEM gives students an opportunity to create and think outside the box. I have given my students materials and a very open ended prompt, such as "can you make a sturdy bridge," from there I am amazed at the different ideas these kids come up with. Every students bridge is so different and thought through, each giving a reason for 'why' they did it that way. Another thing I LOVE about STEM activities is the opportunity it provides for collaboration. I usually put students in pairs, and then listen to their amazing conversations on how they will solve this, or how they will reach this goal together, each bringing their unique outlook to the table. These STEM bins would be so loved and so appreciated in our ever evolving classroom!
