All of our students want to feel included, and they all want to learn. Research shows that lectures just aren’t as effective as kids working collaboratively to solve problems together. What’s really cool about the math games included in this project is that the students will be using clues, tricks, and dialogue together to solve problems instead of pencil and paper. These games, such as Pop & Add Games and Addition Fluency Puzzles, force everyone to interact in a happy and productive way. I’ve used similar games in the past with much success. The students have such a great time working together that they don’t even realize they’re learning. These games not only provide practice and peer interaction but they encourage children to expand their math vocabulary through practice and communication. We’ll plan to use the fluency puzzles at the beginning of the year when we are just learning to master facts. Can you imagine their excitement when we use the addition fact fishing center? The pop and add games will be used as a more advanced center but my special education students can also be grouped together with advanced learners to complete this centers I’m so excited to add these games to my center rotation and observe my students learning from one another.
