Most of my students come from poverty-level homes, and their education is not supported and nurtured at home. This is a challenge. In an ideal world, both home and school would be equal learning environments. It is imperative that I use the time I have with them to the absolute fullest, because every minute counts. One way I can do that is to keep them constantly engaged without wearing their little minds out and boring them. This is a challenge. I strive to make them feel like part of their day is playing, so they are not so taxed mentally and can perform to their fullest potential. This is a challenge. We've learned through research that students have different learning styles, and one of those learning styles is "hands-on" learning. While verbal instruction may not be very beneficial to them, when I partner that verbal instruction with a kinesthetic activity, the lesson becomes concrete.
