Young learners need to have a comfortable area to sit and practice reading. I give my students several options, yet many of them choose to sit on the floor. They sit on the rug and partner read or read independently. I also enjoy joining them on the rug to listen to them read orally. This is the area of the classroom that we use the most. A new bigger rug would make the reading center more comfortable and more attractive to students. Reading is so important to academic success and an attractive comfortable area will encourage students to read more.
