In today's tech savvy society, it is critical that students become comfortable utilizing technology for various reasons. Whether the task is practicing multiplication facts for fluency, researching a plethora of topics for an essay, watching science experiments, or simply reading a book or an article, students need to know how to navigate their learning. Every student learns differently so having Chromebooks in my classroom will allow me to provide students with personalized tutorials and lessons that keep them engaged. By providing students with Chromebooks, they gain unprecedented access to resources and information. My 4th graders love using Chromebooks in our classroom. Unfortunately, we only have a limited number of Chromebooks in our school which we share across three grade levels. Technology is not always available to my class. My students use Chromebooks to help increase their reading, math, and science proficiency through programs such as IXL, Khan Academy, Mystery Science, Accelerated Reader, and Freckle. Additionally, students use Chromebooks to do research for projects and writing assignments. Chromebooks are used primarily during math and literacy centers while I’m teaching a small group of students. Since most of the programs mentioned above have the ability to be individualized, Chromebooks keep students engaged during the independent center time while providing additional instruction and practice on a variety of content. Meeting students where they are helps close the achievement gap and also supports a student's path to success. Technology supports learning.
