We are seeking yoga mats to help my special needs students be more successful in school. Last year we began each day with a short yoga session, led by myself, and then students. I have found the benefits of yoga extend throughout our day. We use breathing and visualization techniques to help center and calm students whose days often have a chaotic start. Students have learned to call on deep breathing and positive thoughts to help them when encountering frustrating and challenging tasks and situations. Practicing poses helps students with physical and spatial disabilities to build strength, flexibility and improve in concepts relating to their bodies and movement. Because the students and my class size have grown, we have run out of space on our classroom rug, therefore yoga mats would give each student the proper personal space and support needed to take their yoga practices to a more serious and beneficial level.
