As educators, we know that STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) is the wave of the future but it is challenging to get students interested. The public image of science is rather negative and boring. An essential element to engage students in science is to show them how it's used in their daily lives. The best way to spark interest in science is to bring it to life with exciting experiments and then reinforce it with a read aloud in class, and what better way than to target science through reading. "The Acadia Files: Summer Science" and "The Acadia Files: Autumn Science" will introduce my kids to important scientific information in a clear and enjoyable way. They will be able to relate to the main character as she is also entering the 5th grade and has many unanswered questions leading her to conduct science experiments. In the book my students will see illustrations of experiments incorporating tons of science terms they will need in order to fully comprehend. I chose these novels for the reason being that Acadia's summer adventures will open young minds to science and the majority will be able to relate with what Acadia is going through. Please keep my students in mind how much they will benefit from these novels.
