Mystery Science?? It will be a mystery to the kids. This curriculum poses a question, then it spikes curiosity and engagement. The questions will start flowing. Really? Does this happen? Why did that happen that way? Is it true? Our students at our school are very curious kids. Next, they will learn about the concepts and end with an activity to drive their engagement. The supplies listed will assist them to complete the activities that will allow the students to think, collaborate, plan, design, and build. For example, the unit Energizing Everything requires most of the supplies needed such as the paper cups, plastic cups, masking tape, toothpicks, straws, foam pipe insulation, dominoes, marbles, LED light, 3V battery, binders, and aluminum foil. This unit will include the students building a racetrack and items to race to figure out how energy makes things go. The room will be filled with so much excitement! The engagement and collaboration amongst the students will be unreal. Another activity in this unit will require the students to build hills and test how energy is stored in hills. Think of a roller coaster! Got your interest sparked? Exactly! Our students' interest will be sparked also. Now we have them hooked! Its time to mimic a roller coaster using a box, foam pipe insulation, marbles, masking tape, stack of binders and/or books, ruler, scissors, paper or styrofoam cup, and a pencil. You ready to build? I know our students will be! What about designing and building a chain reaction with dominoes? What if there was no electricity? Lets build a flashlight with an LED light and a 3V battery. Let the excitement roll!
