My project is compiled of diverse literature in hopes of exposing my mostly white students to the world outside of their suburbia. I also hope to show my students of color that I see them, I care about them, and so does the world. I hope that by exposing these students to the importance of standing up for injustices, we can raise our next generation to be antiracist rather than complicit. Books are expensive, but they are one of the most valuable teaching tools we have. Having rich literature available not only for read alouds, but also for the students to look and read through and see their own faces is so much more empowering than me repeating how important they each are.
