This project will help my students develop the necessary skills for adult lives as they work on problem-solving and designing through team work. By having these manipulative tools in the classroom my students will be able to critically think as they build new experiments and engineer new structures. Having hard-wooden blocks in the class allows students to think through structures that they can build together. From building forts, to bridges, to cities (as a side note: one of my students really wants to build Manhattan), blocks allows them the way to do this. In addition, they can map out their new cities, towns and buildings - giving them the extra learning skills for urban development and understanding of city life. The community block play also allows them to act out real life situations, problem solving issues. The magna tiles and marble-run are excellent tools for science as children learn about polar ends, figuring out how to design and build with different materials. They are also able to test out designs and gravity as they engineer and construct structures that are able to run marbles answering questions like: how come the marble moved faster? How can we make it move slower? How high can we build this structure? What happens if we make it lower? What if we keep it straight for too long? Again, communication and team work are key for their success. Team-work and communication are critical in a child's development as the real-world, and adult life, depend heavily on the ability to work with others, design new products and problem solve through obstacles, differences and thoughts.
