Providing outdoor equipment for our students during recess keeps them engaged in positive physical and social interactions among their peers. It also helps motivate them to exceed expectations in the classroom, hallway, and cafeteria during the school day. Too many times, a boring and negative classroom environment will provide no incentive for a reluctant learner to meet the behavioral or academic standard. As a teacher, I am challenged with space and resources of what I can offer my students as an incentive. Offering a variety of activities to choose from such as basketball, soccer and jump ropes as a reward while also promoting wellness get my students excited about coming into the class eager to learn after a brief positive mental break from the rigorous coursework. By working harder during class time to improve behavior and academic outcomes, students will earn themselves a sense of joy and excitement that they may not receive at any other time of day. The life lessons they will learn during game play are a pleasant bonus to an already improved classroom environment. ​
