My students are in need of a sturdy, water-resistant camera that they can use to document their investigations. In STEM class, small groups conduct experiments and then share their results with classmates. For example, in a typical second grade unit, they grow plants under a variety of conditions to determine which stressors affect plant growth. Remembering and explaining their observations can be difficult for such young students, especially those who are English Language Learners. A camera will allow my young scientists to record their investigations through pictures. In addition to supporting student sharing, the pictures will give me another tool to use as I review with students the concepts that they learned from the project. Finally, we will be able to share the excitement of STEM classes with the rest of the school community by putting their pictures on the school website.
