I give my students many opportunities for choice in my classroom. One way that I do this is through flexible seating. There are many places students can choose to do their work. The most popular choices are the standing desks and the floor. Unfortunately, many years of use by 8 and 9 year olds has taken a toll on the floor space in my classroom. This past year I had to retire the carpet in my library area due to the edges curling and creating a potential tripping hazard. Also, the large carpet in my main teaching area needs to be relocated to the dumpster. :-( It had a great run, but has become a true eyesore in my classroom. I inherited the current carpet when I moved into the classroom 4 years ago, and I am not sure how long it has even been there. Environment is a huge component to the success of students at school. I want my students to feel proud of their classroom and feel a sense of responsibility to keep it clean and organized. This will be easier with a new, clean space for learning. I would love to get these two new carpets for my classroom!
