My project focuses on the routines that have been established in our collaborative classroom around literacy and language development. Currently, students are interacting with pattern books that focus on acquiring sight words and academic content. During their partner/shared reading station rotation, students are in need of additional accessible texts that are filled with characters, settings and experiences that are relevant to their lives . Books of this sort not only allow students to improve their literacy skills, they also foster a love of reading that will extend beyond our classroom, while they foster acceptance and respect of each other's cultures.
