Making math fun is something we do daily in my classroom. My students love participating in inquiry-based projects, interactive notebook foldables, hands-on activities, and educational games. Having resources such as algebra tiles, white boards, and arts & crafts materials help the students become engaged in the daily topic. From the "high-flyers" to the "struggling students", everybody loves to participate in activities that involve manipulatives. However, with budget restrictions at our campus, it is difficult to access the materials needed to complete these daily activities. Solving equations is a topic that all students constantly struggle with and it is an objective that carries over to their high school education and beyond. Therefore, it is imperative that they grasp this concept early-on, thus the use of algebra tiles. The daily use of white boards allows for students to display their work as well as participate in table games for review. The white boards allow me the opportunity to easily spot when and where students are making mistakes in their math. Lastly, the arts and crafts materials are used for the cut-outs and foldables that are places in our interactive notebook.
