One way to help motivate 21st Century learners is technology. Using technology, laptops, in the classroom is a natural approach to what students will encounter in the workplace. Along with practicing skills, they will have the opportunity to learn netiquette, typing, and computer software. Research states that devices can increase student technology use, allow more student centered and project-based instruction, and greater student engagement. I would use the laptops to have students read, write, research, and create media that will encourage continued skill practice. For example, with new Fine Arts standards, I would like to allow students to work on digital storytelling in our immigration unit as well as create a representation of America with technology. With these devices, I will be able to create google classroom projects and students may study at their own pace.
