I have spent hundreds of dollars of my own money to fund my classroom library. I have bookcases, bins, and lots of books I've acquired from thrift stores. Unfortunately, I can't afford new books, and I know my students will benefit from a greater variety of modern books. I believe that a diverse classroom library will help prepare my students for the working world, and help them become better people. In order to foster a love of reading in my students, I need a vast and varied selection of books in my classroom library. I teach 6-8 Reading Connections to reluctant readers, in addition to their core ELA class. Most of my students hate reading, or they struggle with reading. It is my mission to diagnose each student's struggle, and help them overcome it. I want my students to be able to find a book in my classroom that truly represents them. I also want them to read about different places and different kinds of people.
