Students learn more when they work with each other to discover ideas, so collaboration plays a major role in my classroom. Following student collaboration, groups share with their classmates the the ideas they generated, and poster-sized white boards offer a perfect method of presentation. I currently use poster sized chart paper to accomplish this task, but if we have these white boards, we can be better stewards of our planet by saving paper. Students often struggle to understand poetry, but working with each other reveals to them that people interpret poetry in a variety of ways, and that's okay! As they collaborate and share, they realize that something they formerly perceived to be impossible becomes less of a struggle, and they actually learn to appreciate and enjoy poetry.
