Preschoolers enjoy listening to stories on tape as a way to explore the story further, to practice retelling the story and to gain a deeper understanding of the story. Listening centers, stories accesses through a cassette or CD players and headphones, offer time to listen to a story independently. Large, bulky and ill-fitting headphones can make these centers less appealing and then infrequently used. A listening center with headphones built specifically to be comfortable for our youngest learners allows them to engage with literature independently and more often. These additional listening opportunities will support my children's understanding of story structure, vocabulary development and love of literature.
