As an educator I want to provide the best education I can for each of my students and ensure I meet their needs. In first grade my main goal is to teach my students about the importance of reading and how to read. The resources I am requesting are books that are developmentally appropriate for my students. I want to offer my students a variety of fiction and nonfiction books that will engage and promote a strong literacy foundation and become a 21st century learner. I chose Rookie Readers for Science and Math because these books include first grade vocabulary where students can be supported during their reading by using their decoding strategies as they read. I will use these books during my whole group reading time by integrating them with my core subjects like math, social studies and science to help reading become a common thread throughout. I will use them to introduce new standards, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies. Students will be able to select a book and have the option to pick a reading buddy to read during independent reading time. As a teacher I want my students to be able to become inquiry based learners through exploring,being inquisitive, and learning from these books. I want to give my students the opportunities and tools they need to succeed in their educational journey.
