I hope to get students interested in geography and how it affects their lives on a daily basis. We utilize desk maps in the classroom to make students spatially aware of the world around them. Our 7th grade students learn about the physical and human characteristics of the Eastern Hemisphere. My students may not have the opportunity to travel and experience the different cultures or different physical features around the world and I would like to use desk atlases/junior scholastic magazines that give students both of those features. While using the junior scholastic and desk atlas activities students can be active in their own learning.
