My students are already dealing with more personal stress in their daily home life, without adding the worry of being able to have all the basic supplies needed for a great school year. They are more likely to meet or exceed the expectations if there are no obstacles, which are typically out of their control, hindering them from being the awesome students that they are! By having what they need, I expect to increase the learning time and decrease the time spent on behavior because they will have an eagerness to learn and become a more productive student! Every student deserves an opportunity! My students need the basic school supplies just to start the school year, they come to me with nothing to offer in regards to supplies. If I can get them the necessary items needed for daily functioning, I am able to get them on board and help them see that it’s within themselves to make things happen, the actual supplies are just helping them to reach their full potential. I chose the Ticonderoga wood #2 pencils because they have proven over the years to not need as much sharpening, which students use to escape academic time. I also have mechanical pencils because some of my students have sensory issues and can't use the wood pencils. I also need a pencil sharpener that will not eat eh pencil when they do require sharpening. My classroom utilizes individual whiteboards for each student and whole group instruction, and this requires the use of Dry Erase markers which can be an added expense on some of the families. I also like to provide an area where my students can manage things independently. I have a table that will have a stapler, sticky notes, white out for various tasks during the year.
