Most of my students have trouble focusing. Creating centers in my classroom will allow them to be successful working on a variety of activities for shorter periods of time and by allowing them to move in an appropriate manner. We have made "dry erase boards" but lose markers quickly due to repeated use and students cringe at the thought of using socks as erasers, even when told they are new. Color coordinating centers (book bins, organizational bins, charts, students brighten up the room, but more importantly helps students know what to expect and how the flow will go. Some students do much better with visuals than extra words. This can be written on the Better Than Paper Dry Erase paper (to be put on a door). In some cases, students need a block to help them focus so the barriers would be more useful than books which fall over or distract more.
