My students will dive into reading fiction and non-fiction texts through Scholastic's classroom magazines Storyworks Jr. and Scholastic News. Storyworks Jr. will present my students with a variety of fiction texts and authors and challenge them to read and understand texts at or above their reading level. Scholastic News will help my students learn information about people, places and animals through non-fiction text. It will expand their thinking and minds beyond the boundaries of their ethnicity, socio-economic status and their communities. "The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss Through exposure to these resources, my students will be provided with the opportunity to not only increase their reading level, but will also be challenged to think beyond their immediate situation, think of the possibilities, and dream of what incredible opportunities their futures can hold!
