My goal with this project is to build a classroom library that represents and celebrates the diverse backgrounds and cultures of my students as well as our surrounding community. I want my students to be able to see themselves in the books they read. I also want them to have choices in their reading that are not simply limited in their point of view. I want my library to represent cultures and people from across the globe as well as out own community. I want my students to feel free to share what their life is like and to learn what life is like for people who are different than them. With these picture books I will create a classroom library and an environment that is inclusive of all students. These books will be shared with and by students and will help to jumpstart conversations about tolerance and acceptance of those who are different than ourselves. The lessons and messages found in these books are such that will transcend our classroom community and extend into our world at large. My students and our community thanks you in advance for your generous donation.
