I am hoping to start a small library in my art classroom. I think that children should have every opportunity to learn to love to read. Having art classes connect to engaging stories serves a variety of purposes; these books will capture student's attention, and get them excited about making art. Having art projects that they can succeeded with, means that some students who have hard time reading will have a way to meaningfully connect to literature. I have chosen books that help reflect my student's identities, and will help them see themselves as artists. The population of my school is about 90% students of color. The books we read, and the artists we study will show a diverse, inclusive, and colorful world.
