Gone are the days when you would walk into a classroom and see students working individually in nice, neat rows. As educators we have come to learn that this traditional classroom set up does not work for every student. I am requesting materials to add to my collection of flexible seating options that will give my students the freedom to choose a learning space where they will work the best. Picture this: you're in between meetings and need to get some work done at a local Starbucks, there are loads of options for seating. There are couches, chairs with ottomans, booths with tables, and even tables with regular chairs. Which seating option do you choose? I want my students to be able to make the same choices. Flexible seating gives students the power of choice and allows them to control their environment. This type of seating allows students to analyze their own needs and pick where to work and with whom. Flexible seating also helps their physical health which has been proven to be linked to higher academic performance. By implementing different types of seating that allow my students to wobble, rock, bounce, stand, etc. they are consistently increasing blood flow to their brain which helps them focus. I have also seen flexible seating help make students more responsible and more excited about their learning! The advantages of flexible seating are endless! I cannot wait for my students to be truly engaged in their learning through flexible seating. If funded, this project will add the following seating options for my students: -Wobble Seats -Wiggle Seats -Stools at a table Imagine the focused, engaged, smiling faces you would see as you entered my classroom!
