Over the years, kindergarten has changed dramatically academically, socially-emotionally and physically. Having taught this grade level for the past 25 years, I have witnessed a decreasing amount of time that parents allow children to physically move. Technology has taken over free time where children sit for long periods of time at home. Upon arrival in school, the longer days and academic demands create challenges for the 5-6-year-old brain. I have found that flexibility seating is one way to engage these little curious learners. One successful tool for engaging learners is arranging one's classroom to meet the needs of all students. I allow the students to select work areas which they can collaborate and immerse themselves in their project. I believe that having these six Hokki stools will offer them another choice of selecting an academic environment.
