The goal is help students understand the concepts of government through art. Students struggle to analyze and understand political cartoons, graphs, and charts. The goal next year is to have students complete their own charts and political cartoons to understand the content. The increased blending of arts and government will helps students make students accountable for their learning. Students that take my course are required to take and pass a High School Assessment. A large portion of the assessment is understanding graphs, cartoons, and even quotes. Students struggle to understand the underlying meaning of cartoons and cannot understand bar graphs. If presented the opportunity to create bar graphs that directly apply to them students will understand. For example, students will walk around the school day and collect data on how many students live in an apartment and how many live in a single family home. Students will then take and compare the data with their friends and family. From that students will answer the questions "Do more people in Baltimore rent or own their property and How does it affect education?"
