Reeds are very expensive and we go through several, especially with the beginning band students! I used to keep reeds stocked and charge the students $1.00 per reed. Unfortunately, I can no longer do this due to rising costs and limited funds. This past school year, I had to require students to provide their own reeds for band. I found that most students were trying to use reeds far beyond their playable lifespan, and as a result, were sacrificing sound quality, or worse--they didn't have any reeds to use at all. I want my students to have access to the materials that they need, when they are needed. I would like to provide my woodwind players with reeds at no charge so that they no longer have to play on old worn out reeds. It is so important that developing musicians have items that are in good working order so that they are able to maximize their learning opportunities. I hope that with this project, I can provide materials for my students so that they can have a top-quality musical experience.
